You trade micros on one account but want minis on another, or the other way round. Maybe one prop firm's account is small and only fits MNQ, while a bigger account at another firm can trade NQ. Copy Trade for Tradovate lets each follower choose its own contract, so one trade on MNQ can become a trade on NQ, with the stop and target in the same place.
Why MNQ and NQ can share stops and targets
Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 (MNQ) and E-mini Nasdaq-100 (NQ) track the same index at the same price. A stop 20 points below entry is at the same price on both. Only the dollar value per point differs:
| Micro | Mini | Micro $ per point | Mini $ per point | Minis per micro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MNQ | NQ | $2 | $20 | 1 NQ = 10 MNQ |
| MES | ES | $5 | $50 | 1 ES = 10 MES |
| MYM | YM | $0.50 | $5 | 1 YM = 10 MYM |
| M2K | RTY | $5 | $50 | 1 RTY = 10 M2K |
| MGC | GC | 10 oz | 100 oz | 1 GC = 10 MGC |
| MCL | CL | 100 barrels | 1,000 barrels | 1 CL = 10 MCL |
| SIL | SI | 1,000 oz | 5,000 oz | 1 SI = 5 SIL |
The extension treats each of these pairs as the same market. Entries, stops, targets, stop moves and exits are all copied between them. For two different markets, such as MNQ to ES, prices don't line up, so only plain market orders without a stop or target are copied.
How to set it up
Lead on your micro account
In the tab you trade from, choose Lead and broadcast the account that trades MNQ.
Open an NQ chart on the follower and pick it
The Trade list offers the contracts charted in that Tradovate tab, so open an NQ chart in the follower's tab first. Then, under Trade, choose NQ instead of "Same as leader".
Set the size multiplier
The Size setting multiplies the leader's contracts, from ×0.1 to ×20. To keep the same dollar risk going from MNQ to NQ, use ×0.1: 10 MNQ becomes 1 NQ.
Set a max contracts cap
The Max setting caps contracts per entry. Set it to your NQ account's limit at its prop firm.
Test in Dry Run
Place a trade on the leader and check the follower's activity log: it shows the NQ order it would send, with its size, stop and target.

Watch the rounding. A copied order is always at least 1 contract, rounded to the nearest whole contract. At ×0.1, a 10 MNQ trade becomes 1 NQ, which is the same risk. But a 3 MNQ trade also becomes 1 NQ, because 0.3 rounds up to the 1-contract minimum. That's more than 3 times the leader's dollar risk. If you trade small on the leader, either trade at least 10 MNQ or keep the follower on MNQ.
Copying NQ to MNQ
Going the other way is simpler. Lead on NQ, set the follower's contract to MNQ and its size to ×10: 1 NQ becomes 10 MNQ with the same dollar risk. Check the follower's max contracts: many prop firms cap micros at 10 times the mini limit, and the extension's own cap trims anything above your Max setting.
Things to check before going live
- Each prop firm's contract limit. A 50K account might allow 4 or 5 minis, or 40 or 50 micros. Set Max to match.
- Drawdown in dollars, not points. One NQ moves $20 per point, so a 25-point stop is $500 of risk on NQ, against $50 per MNQ.
- Fills can differ slightly. NQ and MNQ trade in separate order books, so a market order can fill a tick apart.

FAQ
Can I copy MNQ trades to NQ on Tradovate?
Yes. With Copy Trade for Tradovate, open an NQ chart in the follower tab, pick NQ as the follower's contract and set the size multiplier. Stops and targets are copied because MNQ and NQ share the same prices.
How many MNQ equal one NQ?
Ten. MNQ is $2 per point and NQ is $20 per point, so 10 MNQ carry the same dollar risk as 1 NQ.
What size multiplier copies MNQ to NQ at the same risk?
×0.1. A 10 MNQ trade becomes 1 NQ. Copied orders are at least 1 contract, so trades under 10 MNQ still copy as 1 NQ, which is more risk.
Can I copy MNQ to ES?
Only plain market orders without a stop or target. MNQ and ES are different markets with different prices, so stops and targets can't be carried over.
